TJ91
I have given up on semi's, much prefer the dub barrels. I have a Basque 10bore which i use for majority of fowling but when decoying duck on tide I will be using my lanber o/u with some 32g steel 4s The question is what load do i get for geese, Chances are I won't get a chance at a goose but I always like to have a cartridge or 2 in a pocket just incase. So i am looking to buy 1 (just incase) box. The gun is an older lanber with 28inch tubes, m/c, also it is 3inch chambered and has 1200 stamped on...so I can use big loads. No steel though, other than non hp stuff. Any recommendations?
B B
I would reload myself but i supose mamoths would get you by ok and you can get them most places, if you can get any Rio Magnums any place, Northalerton stock them get them over the mamoths. Mammoths are steel!? I wouldn't put any bigger than no.4 steel through this gun and I most definitely wouldn't shoot at any geese with steel 4s I am looking for alternative to steel. I shouldn't of put 'cheap' in the title!

TJ91
Why are you limiting your use to shot size 4 with steel? The steel 4s i use are good for the duck. I wouldn't put 3s or bigger through any gun unless proofed for steel. Edited June 18, 2013 by TJ91
B B
It will be ok on steel a lanber i am not 100% but i think they are chrome barrels too, If you are paranoid as hell just keep the more open chokes in it mod in the top barrel, but nothing will go wrong, how can it. Barls2-9-12
It may be worth getting a box of tungsten matrix if you can find them, I did pick a few boxes up last season from the gun shop and I liked them, or hevi shot they do several different loads I know they aren't on the cheap side but if you only need one box I would opt for these. you won't have a problem shooting these through your gun. I take it you also mean you would not put bigger than shot size 4 in steel through your gun..
B B
I have seen a barrel bulge on a Larona like my lanber using steel loads that were hp. I am not risking ruining my gun. If by HP you are refering to High performance steel loads as under CIP proof regs and as such any ammo chuned out by the continentals or english cartridge firms including the allegedly Fast Lightening steel eley loads, your 1200KG lanber or the laurona oposite number will be totaly safe if unobstructed and in decent condition. The Laurona will have had some other issue like an obstruction in the bore or similar to cause a bulge or the chokes could have been more than Mod choke and or Bigger than BBB shot employed and some sort of bridging in the choke area took place, it has to have been something like that, any factory loads you can buy over here will be sound in your gun through the nothing tighter than mod chokes. The Remington hypersonics can be a different story in such guns but are not available here as far as i know certainly not through the normal import systems adopted by the uk distributors. If you dont want to shoot steel through your gun that is of course your decision but typical uk steel factory loads at the speeds they make wont harm it anymore than a lead load will. edenman
Infact hevishot might not be for you either given that its harder than steel shot. You would be better with bismuth or if you homeload itx.
