billytheghillie
I know nothing about rifles, but would like to ask a silly question. my friend has applied for his f.a.c. and asked for .22 rifle and a .22-250. I didn't want to ask him whats the difference between them. I would have thought they were both the same? cheers
grimey121uk
This image shows the difference in case size, note larger case equals more powder, a 22-250 can have over 10x the energy of a 22lr

NathanM
thanks for that grimey. so I take it you can,t shoot a .22lr threw a 22-250 rifle? Nope, although the projectile has a similar diameter, the case is a very different size! This means that a .22lr would just sit in the chamber of a 22-250, rolling around a bit! Also, a .22lr is a rimfire round, meaning that it is ignited by a firing pin hitting the primer in the rim of the round. In a 22-250 however, which is a centre fire, the firing pin ignites the cartridge by striking the primer in the middle of the round. I know, it's confusing to start with!
