red_stag88
Wrong, blue aint native to england, scotland yes and stocked waters also you can find them.
Vermin Dropper
That must be why I only pull them out of the stocked fisheries then. In that case it has to be the other three.

Teal
What??? Rainbow trout are not native to the UK. Edited November 27, 2003 by William
tiercel
Red if you had included the word trout we would have had the answer by now, there is only one spieces of trout, that is "salmo truta". And that includes sea trout which has the same latin name as brown trout .It also includes all the other variations of trout ie slob trout, ferrox trout but does not include members of the chars. Teal
Ah but TC for a species to be recognised as an independent species cross breeding can not occur between it and another species which produces fertile offspring, and as far as I know brown trout and sea trout can't reproduce with each other to produce fertile offspring? Thereby they must be different species! If they can do it and produce fertile offspring then I stand corrected but I've never heard of it
tiercel
William what you seem to have failed to grasp. Is that they are one and the same spiecies. A sea trout is a browntrout that has gone to the sea.
Teal
Amazing what you learn isn't it, thanks TC I always assumed they were different fish, so all seatrout are brown trout but not all brown trout are sea trout (ie the ones in the loughs in the highland which never make it to the sea). tiercel
William within the salmo family a lot of annomilies arise. For example a female salmon does not need an adult male to fertalise her eggs.
tiercel
Its still not known if like breeds like, but the most prolific sea trout rivers have little plant life and are mostly spate rivers. Therefore could not sustain a good head of brown trout in their waters. Because of lack of food. That may be the reason for the trout going to the sea. bill
rainbow trout are a native of calforunia states side. i can never spell that word they sea run their, and are called steel heads here we have rainbows and browns
red_stag88
The species of trout are, Rainbow, Brown (sea) and cannibal or ferox trout. There is the brook trout and its off spring (tiger trout), however the origninal brook trout is an inport char from the states. The tiger trout is a brown/brook cross.
