Do pigeons come down for newly sown barley?

My farmer grows a lot of barley for cattle feed. Is it a good crop to pull the pigeons in? Would they appear at the drilling or later to take the tops as it germinates? I'm clueless about what crops are best, but think that spring sowing must be a good time for the birds? :) The next good shoot I will get is ploughing time, he hasn't done it yet.

And he won't do it until late March, whereupon you may get some birds on the field, about 4 or 5 days after it's been drilled, they may only stay for a couple of days, depends on how well it's been drilled and how much is left on the surface.

You need to be flexible and go when the birds are on the field, not when you hope they will be.

They won't look at it once it's germinated, until it gets laid during June / July.

Cat.
