Browning
Hi All, I need to buy an air rifle, for rats around the farm, squirrels around my feeders and ferals in the grain stores (general places where it's not safe or convenient to use a shotgun or rifle.) I know very little about air rifles, so would appreciate any adivise from you experienced air rifle users. I'd like advice on makes, models, actions, calibers etc etc, in the low/mid price ranges. This won't get that much use, so I don't want to spend much on it. Any help and advice much appreciated.

decroyffe
Your going to get a lot of advice on this one, maybe too much. everyone's differant and they'll tell you what suits them. the best thing to do is choose what calibre you want, then if you want a self contaied rifle, ie spring or gas ram as aposed to pnumatic, and get yourself off to a gun shop. pick up every gun they have, and put up in your shoulder, you'll find one that feels right and fits you, instead of what suits someone else. I've had many, in the end i went back to the Airarms s200. i got shut because i found the feeding too fidderly, now there's a 10 shot conversion it's perpect. It's as good as the rapid at half the cost, but thats my opinion. good luck and hope you find a rifle that you can get on with regards kieran
SNAKEBITE
As above really. If you give us a price range then maybe we could narrow it down. However you would not go wrong with a BSA lightning. Good quality, reasonably priced budget self contained springer with a built in silencer. 30-6
If you do go pneumatic over a spring or gas ram, an AA s200 would fit the bill perfect, and in .22 I would say if rats are on the list. But if it is going to get used very little a basic springer perhaps is best, as you do not need all the filling equipment necesarry for a pneumatic. But saying all that, a pneumatic is much easier to shoot and the fun factor of an air rifle will have you reaching for it more than you think.
