Scully
On our main syndicate all guns pay an upfront fee and that's the end of our financial, and for the most part, hands on commitment.but for all those little DIY shoots out there, how do you raise funds to manage the financial commitments such as paying for wheat, sourcing feeders, buying your birds, buying and sowing cover crops etc etc? We sell deer and rabbits to a local game dealer, sell firewood to whoever we can(biggest customer at moment is local hot air balloonist!) and otherwise basically scrounge anything we can. What do you do?

Mr pigeon
8 of us pay £550 each for the year. The farmer and his brother put in cover crops in exchange for there 2 places. Our money £4400 buys 800 ex layers and wheat and food for lunch times. Feeders etc is all scrounged, if we haven't got it we ain't got it! Beaters get shooting in return or some beaters are newbies from local gun dog training so happy to come out. We usually buy "rubbish" wheat and hand feed so its cheaper and the birds seem to prefer scratching around in it. Hope that helps.

WGD
Not in a syndicate this year but a couple of years ago we had all monies paid by the time the birds go to wood, with the exception of a float which was kept and maintained by one of the guns to pay the beaters and buy food and drinks throughout the season and which was topped up by the guns each shoot day through the season.
