Footu
Am thinking of trying out wildfowling, both clubs close enough so does anyone shoot either and what are main differences in terms of tide flow, scenery, likely quarry and bag limits. Any info much appreciated. Footu,
spanj
waiting list for frodsham, Dee have an extensive induction programme. Try it, you'll love it
DOLLSEYES
Pretty much the same as scenery and quarry, bag limits, but Frodsham owns some of its own land and has a pheasant shoot and vermin shooting. My own view is Frodsham is the better of the two. kent
Never shot Frodsham so cannot comment 2nd hand. For a first timer Dee is ideal, as they actually care about who goes out on their marshes and welcome new guys. it takes time out there to sort any venue but when things are just right the Dee can produce the goods for a variety of wildfowl widgeon, teal and Pintail are the main duck. Lots of Canadas and some Greylag and fast growing numbers of Pinks each year once winter grips us proper.
Highbird70
I was lucky enough to be invited at Frodsham....I don't know the Dee, but belive me, when the sun rises and you greeted by 400 teals 200 widgeons and several geese all at once.....you know that you are in the right place
Terry P
Do either of these clubs do permits as it would be a great way to get people into the sport. I'm sure I did not see either in the basc permit sceme. Both a little far for me to join but great for a day out on a permit,
Dee Wildfowler
The Dee doesn't take part in the BASC Permit scheme because we have a number of landowners who have different requirements e.g. we shoot on MOD Ranges and have to be off their area while the Ranges are being shot, and we shoot on RSPB land where different conditions apply. The Dee also has some of the fastest tides in the country and the danger of an inexperienced wildfowler being drowned is very real. All this is part of the reason we have a induction training programme for new members. Details of how to apply to join and what is involved in the probationary membership induction programme are on the club website at www.deewildfowlers.co.uk John
Terry P
I understand the where you are coming from John and firmly believe that the induction phase your club offers is fantastic, and I would try and join at the drop of a hat if your marshes were closer. The vast majority of clubs that are on the permit sceme do insist that you go out with a club member which I also thing is the right thing to do. Footu
Many thanks for the replies. The induction program looks brilliant but as luck would have it I helped look over a dog for someone and he has offered to take me out over Frodsham marshes. It may be I go that way purely by chance, might be easier on a newbie than those quick tides too. Atb Footu
Wildfowler12
It may be I go that way purely by chance, might be easier on a newbie than those quick tides too. Atb Footu I'm a member at Frodsham, I don't have a bad word to say about the club. It has a very similar set up to Dee WF with regards to accompanied visits and testing for probationary members. I have to add though... The river that Frodsham shoot (Mersey) has the 2nd largest tidal range in the country and a VERY fast flow, hence the introductory system that's in place. So don't assume it'll be easier or safer than any other marsh! I hope you enjoy your day at the club. I've taken several members from here and they all really enjoyed it, in fact, most of them are now on the waiting list Edited August 25, 2013 by Wildfowler12
