Was wondering if any gun makers make modern 8 bore.

All replies welcome strangford wildfowler.

Hello mate, I dont know if any new ones are made but I recently bought a "Afton Gunworks" English made 8 Bore from the mid 1980's just having the woodwork done up but its a very sturdy built gun based on a "Rigby " type action with a falling block operated by a side lever...serial no-13...its a true .835" bore steel barrel so you can fire plaswads through it etc, you just have to tweak the Brass on the plastic remi cases a little on the lathe to make them fit otherwise you'd have to have some full "Brass cases" made..."be mindful of this" if your ever offered one!....I know there have been quite a few spanish 10 to 8's bored out but I dont know other than this model if any specific 8s have been made as the shells ceased being manufactured in 1976 by Eley, so other than these little firms producing small numbers I would'nt have thought anyone else would produce any as there'd be no money in it obviously most good gunsmiths would make you one but at what cost?.

atb....Dale.

Cheers for the reply dale would love an 8 bore but they are far to expensive.

My grandad was a wildfowling man through and through and all he used was double 8, don't have it in the family no more because it was sold after he died and that was before I was born (I'm 14)

Do you have a 8 bore and what do think of it?

All the best Robert.

Have you still got the other 8 Dale?

Hello Mat, yes I've still got the "Holland & Holland"...more of an investment really where this new gun is more of a tough, no nonsence working gun...(dont need to be too careful with it)...its the one "Harry the cat" had a shot with...took it to work and let a few of the lads have a go with it...Harry shot his 1st duck with it, even though it was only drawn on a cardboard box in felt pen but he still claimed a kill!...anyway me and steve have joined up again , so we'll see you shortly down the wash, hope you've got the reloading game sorted?

best wishes...Dale......by the way..kennels are looking well, looked at a few of your posts.
