Mr-Sheen
Hi Guys, Put simply when it comes to mechanics i am no Edd China, so really i have no idea what it is that has gone wrong with my beloved little fez. Last night when reversing out of my driveway, the car struggled to engage any gears and the clutch pedal felt very slack and as if the biting point had changed. This morning when going out to see if i could make anything of the situation in the better light, a pool of viscous fluid has accumulated underneath the engine and the car will no longer engage any of the gears and there is no pressure in the clutch what so ever now. So my question is, what is the problem likely to be and what is a ball park figure to fix it? Any help will be much appreciated as i need this problem sorted as the car is for work, money is tight at the moment and i don't want any garage ripping me off. Regards, Tom. Lord Geordie
Sounds like the clutch may be a hydraulic one? Not sure on Fiesta's. If it IS a Hydraulic clutch then I would say the cylinder has failed. Shouldn't be a fortune to replace the cylinder and bleed it. Just checked! Yours DOES have a slave cylinder. They are around £35 up over on the bay. Looking at the design I would say your box needs to come off to install it. Lord Geordie
If your garaging it, then be prepared to pay through the nose. They make a mark up on parts, and labour will be about 2 hours. I would say a minimum of about £250 but thats a conservative estimate.
88b
First thing to check is where the hydraulic pipe joins the slave cylinder, it's a push fit held in with a clip. This is on top of the transaxle, you will probably have to remove the air filter box to gain access.if it is the actual slave cylinder the transaxle has to come out and it's worth putting a complete clutch in then. Gunnerbob
Almost certainly the seals in the clutch slave cylinder have given up the ghost....or less likely, a fractured hydraulic pipe or failed union. ... armsid
this model has the slave cylinder inside the g/box and it is best to fit a full 3 piece kit. the hydraulic pipe clip could be at fault but i doubt it.as 88b said the box has to come out. Mr-Sheen
Well guys i got the car into the garage earlier today and as thought, the slave cylinder has gone and i now have to get the entire clutch replaced. The price i was quoted was £438, is that a bit pricey for what I'm getting?

The price i was quoted was £438, is that a bit pricey for what I'm getting? Depends how much of that is labour and how much is for the parts. If they are using all genuine parts and the labour is around £65-70 an hour that price will be right but if they are using aftermarket parts its a bit on the dear side. Mr-Sheen
It doesn't sound too bad as he is using genuine ford parts and besides,i couldn't get booked in anywhere else for another 10 days so its not the end of the world! Cheers for all the help guys
88b
You need to be careful with "genuine" Ford parts as the clutches are reconditioned , I'd go for a good aftermarket one.
