Steel question?

Recommended Posts

Would appreciate some help! I'm planning an order in from JC and I was going to buy the super steel that everyone recommends for the ducks.

However, on their list I can only see "game and wet steel". Is this the same as the super steel that everyone likes? An I better with the 70mm shells or the 3 inch cartridges? I'm going to buy size 3.

The 3 inch stuff is 36 grams compared to 32 and about £2.50 a box more.

Would appreciate any info as I don't want to mess up an order. Many thanks!

Yeah, game and wet steel is the same thing as super steel mate. The 3' 36g cases are called mammoth steel. They are both very good.

My preferred load is the 32g Super Steel in 3's, because the cases are clear and easier to find in bad light IMO.

Thanks very much! Appreciate it :good:

Have you noticed any difference in performance between the 36 and 32 gram shells?

Many thanks!

Not really mate, I cut some up and the difference in pellet count was about 20 if I remember right? The quoted speed is 25fps faster on the 3' cases.

Ballistically, there is obviously a difference, but for the average shot (like me) I doubt you'd notice.

Having said that, I don't shoot 'rangy' duck. You may see a difference if the birds you're shooting at are further out. If that's the case, get the 3'. But I will say I've used 100s of both and can't faut either of them.

I use both and would go for the 3" all way next time.

Only bought the 70mm for teal and close duck, I use 3&4 shot.

3" in 1s & 3s for longer range duck and closer geese.

Make your order upto 1000 as its same delivery cost, I do with game or clay carts. If I have to use them.
