snowmonster
The action may have a value to a gunsmith for re-barrelling etc so I'd be finding out first before handing over to plod or anyone.
fern01
I am not convinced that shotguns with any value are actually destroyed, there was a case up in the NE where they were being re-sold. I think I would want to give it a dose of angle grinder before I handed it in.
jef
I had to scrap a .223 rifle. My RFD sent it to Holts auction house and I eventually got £150 for it. JF

JonathanL
It is quite legal for you to scrap it your self if you want. You need to advise the police that it has been scrapped though. If you decide to do it your self then make absolutely sure that none of the bits you are left with are capableof being used as you will be in unlawful possession of them. The easiest method is to hand it in to the cops if yuou really don't want it. As others have said; is it really in need of scrapping? If it's worth anything at all or or it still works then by scrapping it you are destroying something which may be of use to someone. It is rare that a gun is actually beyond repair or is of no use to anyone. J.
