Can anyone pass on some tips for getting permission to shoot

on farmers land? All I seem to get is a polite "no thanks" if

I approach the local farmers.I have had a gun for three

months now,and I am itching to have a go at pigeon shooting.

I am in my mid thirties,level-headed and have past experience

of using firearms.I shot pigeons many years ago in a different

district,but now I have drawn a blank.

Dress smart, Knock on doors, be polite.

Print out a CV, include your licences, BASC membership ( it shows you have public liability insurance), a couple of references, other services you may be able to offer ( building work, beating etc),

Introduce yourself, (maybe mention that you have seen a lot of pigeons on his fields) give the farmer your CV and ask if he would consider giving you permission to shoot over his land.

Take a permission form for them to sign.

It worked for me. :)

Good luck, Happy shooting. :yp:

In terms of getting started is it a case of the following (I'll follow any advice come January when I have me gun)?.

1) Buy an OS map of the area in which you'd be prepared to travel to shoot

2) Circle any farms near/adjacent to woodland (no matter how small) within said area

3) Use the phonebook(?) to get the address

4) Print off "CV" with references, BASC membership, shooting history, skills etc

5) Post/Deliver letters including some promise of remuneration, whisky, a couple of weekends labour/beating/odd jobs

6) Follow up with visit dresses smart and talking smart

7) Crossing fingers and hoping for the best

Thoughts?

I Would:....

1) get your CV sorted,

2) drive around your local (ish) area looking for likely areas/fields,

3) find the farm relating to said areas,

4) aproach the farmer or land owner, (knock their door)

5) introduce yourself and offer your cv, ask if they would consider giving you permission to shoot over their land, offer services etc,

6) if they are not there go back later, if you speek to the wife make an appointment or ask when it is convenient to return,

7) if you get the land pop back with nice bottle to say thankyou.

Hope this helps.. :yp:
