Millomite
Has anyone used these for training? My cocker is now three months old and I will be starting her training soon. I have got her sitting now which is good, need to work on the recall, what method do people use for this?
decroyffe
probably not very technical but just throw a tennis ball a couple of times a day, see if the dog picks it them call the dog back, two birds one stone. see what NTTF has to say, he's your man, if he says differant forget the above regards
Browning
Scott, I'm in a similar position to you with my 4 month old sprocker, I use treats to get him used to the "Here" command. Basically let him play around for a while, then call his name to get his attention, if he starts coming to me I give the "here" command whilst he's coming in, then reward with lots of praise and a biscuit. If he doesnt' come straight in I show him the biscuit and again give the "Here" command when he starts coming, again with lots of praise and a biscuit as a reward. I then slowly phase the biscuit out and rely on praise only. I always get down low when teaching the "here" command, so I'm closer to his level. I do have the gundog training broadsheets somewhere. PM me your email address if you want them and I'll look them out.

barraboy
i was told a quick trick to get the pups used to the recall is at feeding time get them to sit a few feet away , put their food down then give them the recall whistle, they associate the two. however, i was told this long after my lab was past this and have not had a pup to try it out so......
