Frenchieboy
I recently bought a new Ultrafire T6 Torch and fitted a pressure switch, amber acetate filter and a new scope mount to it with the intention of using it for lamping with my .22LR. With the weather being what it had been recently and me not liking the idea of going out lamping just to get soaking wet I kept the lamp on hold for a while. In the mean time another "Cree Troch" came up for sale which had been modified by Activii, this one was fitted with a red pill and was much more powerful than the T6 and was very reasonably priced so I went ahead and bought that too - The only change that I have done on that lamp is fitting a pressure switch. The other evening (Thursday) it looked as if it was at last going to be a suitable night with a good breeze and plenty of cloud cover so I decided the time was right to go out and try the two lamps/torches. I got to the farm and after a quick chat to the farmer fitted the larger red lamp to my trusty little .22LR "pumper" and set off in search of a rabbit or two. After quietly strolling behind the top covered yard I turned the lamp on and was amazed at what I saw. Right in front of me were two badgers going about their nightly forraging in the soft wet ground less than 10 yards away from me completely unconcerned about the red lamp being shone on them. A quick "bark" was all that was needed to get them scurrying off so that I could follow them to see exactly what range the lamp had before I could no longer get "positive identification". After following them with the lamp I was still able to positively identify them at well out beyond 100 yards, this really pleased me as it tells me that the lamp is suitable for using on the .222 if I want/need to lamp any foxes! With that I decided to change lamps and try the T6 to see what range that had. With the acetate amber filter fitted it was able to allow me enough light to positively adentify rabbits out to about 60 or 70 yards - Plenty far enough for me! The rabbits were a bit "jittery" wth the amber filter on them so I have cut a red acetate filter to try on my next outing. This smaller lamp is also ideal for fitting to my shotgun if I have any foxes to deal with in areas where a rifle might not be practical/safe! I refitted the larger lamp onto the rifle as it will be my "main" lamp and it needed a little time for my eyes to acustom to scanning the land while using a red light with a very tight beam. I was only out for about 30 minutes all told as it started to rain but in that time I managed to get 4 rabbits, all of which didn't bat an eye lid and seemed to be totaly ablivious to me and the red lamp on them. All 4 were shot from the standing position using my thumb stick to rest at ranges from around 30 yards out to about 75 yards. The first photo shows the smaller T6 fitted to the "pumper", the second shows the larher lamp from Activii (One of the best accessories I have ever bought) on the same rifle and the third photo shows the rabbits. (Please note that the blood on the rabbits is not from gut shooting them, it is where I left them stored in a bag in the boot of the car after gutting them in the field ready to be skinned the following morning) To say that I am pleased is a bit of an understatement! All I need to do now is to decide if I want to keep my old Lightforce 140 with it's battery and red and amber filters or pass it on to someone else that could use it! activeviii
Good right up kidda, nice to see the torch in use. bad news and good news. the bad news is the other torches throw further and as smaller. the good news is you can unscrew the front lens head and put a crelant in its place About £24 of eblag. then you will have something a bit special as its more than the NM800. its a swop out part. the crelant head just need to be tuned to get the best focal length on the LED. but its right on the limits of the threads and i have unscrewed the head more than once. here you go, just found a photo. all the best Phil.
