FAC and Calibre restrictions

In answer to your question...I can't speak of any specific brands/weights, but I know that depending on the bullet loading and weight the power is basically variable down to about 30ftlbs (maybe even less, though the usefulness of this is debatable). After a quick search on the forum search facility I did find this thread that may be of interest:

http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/107323-low-powered-22lr-ammo/

I can't really comment on .17HMR at this point as I've not looked into it (I'm looking at getting a 22LR myself) but the physics and principles will be the same, and I'm sure if

you look around there will be varying FPS ammunition for that calibre too.

No, no, its not.

The physics and principles are far, far from the same.

Work out the math, and you will see, like me that a sub sonic (hmr) .17 is a nonsense.

I can't see that it is going to be much different for most folk!

And those CCI quiets are useful, shame GMK don't seem to want to bring in the segmenting version.

:good::good:

that would be handy as the cci segmenting just didn't group well in my lr

just shows how different rounds are

cci quiets,cci velocitors,cci subs all group well

yet cci segmenting,cci stingers,and cci standards all group bad

Righto lol. I stand corrected. No subsonic ammo for HMR. In my defence I did also say I hadn't looked into it :P...and in terms of the physics surely the ol'e Ftlbs = fps x fps x weight / 450240 still applies?? (with varying weight causing a variation in retained kinetic energy)

-Andrew

Energy is only a part of the performance/terminal ballistics of any bullet...look up V-Max characteristics as commonly used in HMR.

The HMR was designed around a wildcat cartridge and honed to perform with 17g V-Max. Other bullets are available for the HMR but the most commonly used by a country mile is the V-Max, and that is simply because they work!
