r1steele
Steve-b, if your making some let me know how you get on as I've never eaten if or made it but if it's good it's a nice way to use the green ones up.

I made some last year, as I had about 3lb of green tomato's. It was excellent and easy to make, but I've lost the recipe. There's loads on the internet, just type in 'green tomato chutney'. I'm just wondering if anyone has their own recipe that I can try.

SecretFollower
I was given some green tomatoes the other day. Used some to make green tomato & apple chutney, and the rest just green tomato. I got the green tomato recipe from the net and it tasted great on first tasting. I'm going to leave it a few weeks now tho. 175g/6oz light brown sugar 150ml/5fl oz white wine vinegar 1 shallot, peeled, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, peeled, finely chopped 2cm/¾ in piece fresh root ginger, peeled, finely grated 1 red chilli, finely chopped 125g/4½oz sultanas 600g/1lb 5oz green tomatoes, quartered Heat the sugar in a frying pan until the sugar melts and caramelises. Then add all the other ingredients and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 1 hour, until thickened. It says you should be able to draw a spoon across the bottom of the pan so that it leaves a channel behind that doesn't immediately fill, but I didn't bother with this and it seemed thick enough. Then spoon into sterilised jars.
AlistairB
This is the one I use, it makes about 3lbs of chutney: 3lb tomatoes 1lb apples – peeled and cored 8oz onions – skinned 8oz sultanas 8oz Demerara sugar 2 level tsp salt ¾ pint malt vinegar ½ level tsp cayenne pepper 1 level tsp mustard powder Generous pinch chilli flakes - not in the original recipe but i like them added (You can add some dried root ginger but I tend not to) Scald and skin the tomatoes, the slice thinly Finely chop the apples and onions add to a pan with the tomatoes Add the rest of the ingredients Simmer until tender and thick

AlistairB
If you add the dried root ginger, take it out before bottling. AB
