Was I you I'd go over to solid fuel (if you can of course) I cut my winter heating/hot water bill by over half by fitting a stove with boiler (£1300 to 500) Brian Edited September 26, 2013 by The Croc
glb8686
My father has tanked lpg as he can't get mains. He uses kerosene to run his fire in the living room as it's cheaper than having the central heating on. Airsorce is the new big thing but I'm not convinced. houlsby
Better off getting a log burner and collecting wood :-) Mines having a log burner with back boiler on for the winter. I get free wood from sites on my travels. (Borrowed of course) :-D

-Mongrel-
This is an extract from a 2013 Govt survey/paper. I've linked the whole PDF thingy at the bottom. The estimated cost of heating a typical three bed-house with oil has been second only to LPG for most of the past seven years. In January 2013 the estimated national average cost of using oil for heating and hot water in a typical three bedroom house was just under £1,700 per year, compared to around £1,250 for gas.10 11 While the average cost of heating oil is almost 50% higher than mains gas, the cost of using LPG is almost double that of gas. UK average heating oil and LPG heating costs have risen over the last four years, during which time LPG has been consistently the most expensive and heating oil has been the most volatile. If I read it right, LPG is twice the cost of gas, and half as much again as using solid fuel. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=8&ved=0CIgBEBYwBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.parliament.uk%2Fbriefing-papers%2FSn05806.pdf&ei=iPtFUtPtBOfW7Qb6pYGoAw&usg=AFQjCNGVId1uqVuUK_flPgrOejo6WHkoeg&sig2=4H0LG79XV04ucXAhVGmWVA&bvm=bv.53217764,d.ZGU Edited September 27, 2013 by -Mongrel-
The Croc
how much will I pay to install a multi fuel boiler stove for a 3 bed bungalow, including plumbing to hot water tank. Have you got raidiators already installed? I had an inset stove fitted, one of these http://www.charnwood.com/range/stove/slx-45.aspx which I bought, the HETAS guy fitted that and supplied and fitted the flue and a new pump and any thing else needed plus chimney cowl, and all plumbing work neccessary to get it working £800 The stand alone stoves may be a lot cheaper if you don't have to do structural alterations to fit them or comply with the regulations. I went with the insert/inset as we had a gas fire and back boiler already there, and to fit a stand alone would of requied major structural work, so just take the old fire out slot the new one in Brian Edited September 28, 2013 by The Croc
