paul1966
trouble is with shopping around they all sooner or later put there prices up, i've been with eon since switching from british gas. we have an open coal fire that i'm now thinking of swapping it for a wood burner, does anyone know the price comparison between coal and wood, assuming you buy the wood? deaquire
Wood's less expensive than coal, cleaner to. Doesn't burn so hot but doesn't need to in a log burner.
figgy
If your appliance is is efficient the cost of change would take a bit of time to recoup. Wood is cheaper but nowhere near as hot, I had a 16" open fire with a all night burner grate and fret reduced to 12" with fire reducers, still hot as hell and used a lot less fuel. One builders bucket for 24 hours continuos burning. Get the right coal and its calorific value is more than double wood. Wood is cleaner. As everything personnel choice. I've just installed my parents Xeoos twinburn x5, 93% efficient and very clean. Will install mine in a month or so when plastering is done.
