steve0146
Im looking at trying reloading for the first time. I dont want to invest in a press just yet but there seems to be a few people who use dowel and nail for unpriming and then just tapping the new primer in with the dowel. Is this safe?? There are plenty of youtube vids on it, but Im not convinced? Anyone here do this?
Subaru_sti5
If you don't want to spend too much money straight away on a press I would recomend getting a lee loader around the £40 mark. Would rather that than risk loosing a finger or worse....

mr smith
Thats the method i used years ago for doing my 10 bore.Six inch nail to pop out the primer, drilled a hole in a piece of wood to allow the primer to drop.Inserted the primer with a wooden dowel inside the case pushing down on the primer. Amazed
See if you can find a socket to fit the bottom of the cartridge in then the primer will drop through the hole. you can get different size drifts may be of more use that a nail but if it works. Underdog
No problem at all...I have made loads of simple shot shell tools over the years. As long as the fired shell goes int' same gun no worries. I use to sit in front of the telly many a night reloading.... try and make some woooden tongues to hold the shell while roll crimping too! U. kent
I pop the primers out with a little steel bar I ground down to suit. I sit the shell upside down onto it and use an arbour press to pop the primer out via downward pressure. Many CF reloaders pop each spent primer out by hand with a punch it lets you have a feel of how slack things are getting. To insert a new primer I have a length of bar as a tighter fit inside the case turned off square both ends and push the primer in again with the arbour press
