.223 info

I am new to this cartridge size myself, but my first impressions are its very good, light recoil, long barrel life and a very good selection of factory ammo, the rifle that i bought has a 1/9 twist barrel which means it will shoot bullets 50gr to 75gr. Hornady do a 40gr load thats cracking on at 3800fps. I am loading my own ammo for mine which gives you a lot more options on bullet type and velocity. I thought long and hard about whether to go for a 22,250 or.223 and after reading up on both decided to go for .223, try looking on PredatorMaster forun, its a US site and look on there which they prefer, nearly everyone will advise you to go for a .223 Have you thought about what make to go for ?

From what i have read CZ, Tikka, savage and remington and many more make very good rifles, that is down to your personal choice as some do 1/12 twist barrels,(40-55grain bullets) some do 1/9 twist, 50-75 or maybe 80gr bullets) my advice is read up first, "please" dont rush to the shop and just buy a .223 The .223 is a smaller case than a .243 (although velocities are roughly the same depending on bullet weight) i have mine set to shoot 1" high @ 100yds , that will shoot dead on at 200yds with my bullet/powder combination.

Hi skinner, i've been shooting 223 for a while now, at the moment i've got a rem 700 pss 1/9 26in barrel, shots 55gr nosler bt with max load of varget, **** hot, nearly 3400 fps, excellent for foxes, and rabbits out to 300 + yds, Berger 70 gr vld also do very well in a 1/9 twist barrel.

Not long had my .223 and I'm still trying out ammo, seems to group well with Sako factory loads and makes one hell of a mess of a rabit :good: but it seems to shoot quite flat to 300 yards. I'm just waiting for a new scope to arrive to really get to grips with it.

And Ninja fox, where in Cornwall??
