abs and handbrake light

Hi Everyone

My wifes renault megane mark 2 the one with the big bum (the car not my wife) has a problem with the abs and handbrake warning light coming on after about 10 mins of driving. When you turn the car off and restart the lights go off again but come on after driving for a while.

I recently changed the rear brake disc which has got the wheel bearing and abs sensor as all part of it, i think it may just be some dirt or something affecting the sensor. Before i strip it apart does this sound like a possible cause or is there something more to it?

Thanks in advance.

You have poss disturbed something, abs sensors are a nightmare, we have had a free lander off the road for 2/3 weeks, eventually sorted. But start looking at the place you where working. If you have to take it for a diagnostic check take it some where repritable as we had 1 garage chacing the fault around for over a week, and quoting £200 plus vat for each sensor (4 needed). We got them new of flea bay for £64, for the four. They where fitted and proved working(good job we didnt pay £800 plus vat.The garage still couldnt find the fault and gave up.Take it to Renault if you need diagnostic check.

HI

I've not been in the motor trade for five years, diagnostic,s was my job

i can only advise you to go over your work....is the reluctor ring on the back of the disc ok

check for visual damage to the abs sensor,if you had the abs sensor unplugged make sure the

plug is pushed all the way in......I cant remember what the warnings lights are like but also check the brake fluid level....

(the list can go on an on)

this could also be a new fault.....if you dont find anything needs diagnostic code reader..

I had a person next door to me a few years ago who had his own small garage done mots etc but this was before you could get the all singing and dancing fault readers and only main dearers had the machines to plug in and I had a fault on a Astra he told me to check every electronic connection I could and see if that fixed it as he hated paying £60 to main dealer to be told it was corrostion on a terminal eg oxidization causing a low reading and he was right this time found a furred up push on connection to the water temp sensor.
