hedd-wyn
I know from previous posts that a lot of members own and regularly use their 410 shotguns out in the field and with great success. I have a Welbley Scott bolt action 410 and is now probably my most favourite gun the cabinet in fact I will be taking it out this afternoon. I get a great deal of satisfaction taking it out with me mid week when I've got a few hours spare to see what I can bag with it. I have been regularly knocking over rabbits clean at 25-30 yards with the Fourlong 2.5 inch No6 cartridges and am very pleased with them. Even though the 410 doesn't have the stopping power of it's bigger brother the 12g I find my kill ratio to be much better with the 410 because of the thought I put into the shot, with mine being full choked shot placement is essential. So the aim of this thread really is a tribute to the 410 and for people to share what gun they have, what their favourite ammo is and for what quarry. Also posting pictures of their guns would be nice and would be interesting with a bit of history behind it I am curious to know how people are getting on with the 3 inch cartridges (mine is only has a 2.5 inch chamber) All the best Heddwch

kent
I use the 3" 18 grm fibre Eley shell. Its very good in no.6 it will kill anything the 12 can up to 25yds without it rattling when you pick up a short one (shot a bunny at 15 yards Monday and it was on table last night, cant do that with the 12ga) Range wise I find wounders exponentially increase after 25 yds which I call the maximum. I have also taken to shooting the light 12 s/s with a .410 reducer in the first barrel coz sometime a quick chance at a 15 yd shot is all you get in the rushy fields. The reducer (little skeeter does not get the full energy you produce with a full .410 barrel so its just a short range only thing) patterns are great though. I seriously doubt choke makes much difference in .410 due to its range limits and would happily shoot any choking, it certainly don't need to be Full or nothing as many think. I will seriously get into reloading the .410 shortly but at present I don't shoot enough rounds through it to make it worth the effort or expense. snarepeg
Use a Remington 870 pump, had this 30 years, use home loaded 3inch with 5/8oz of 6s and it is a pleasure to shoot, nice on pigeons over close decoyes when noise is a factor.
