Therealchucknorris
I know what you mean and quite agree. What I meant to say was that I would prefer, as the injured party, to be dealing with an insurer, rather than telling the chap who made a mistake that he would have to sell his home to pay the compensation because he was not insured. Bang on. Not least because on the whole insurers are slightly more pleasant to deal with than solicitors (only just mind)
r1steele
Eugh...that is scarey! Seen a couple of things recently that is making me want to wear a full face helmet We used to have certain teams of guns turn up and the keepers and beaters often referred it to as 'tin hat day'. Same guns were told year after year about their safety (or lack of) and it didn't seem to sink in.
Therealchucknorris
Just signed up with SACS at only £26 for the year thanks to a group rate secured by another forum I frequent. Covers range and field activities and they look to be fairly progressive and good supporters of the sport. Job done.
David BASC
Some organisations include personal accident cover within the membership package, BASC do for example, as a member if you are injured when shooting for example and suffer a serious injury you can claim off that policy. It will pay £50 for each day you are in hospital, pay out if you lose a part of your body or lose the use of it, it will pay out if you are disabled because of the accident and so on. As said, the main claim will be against the person who injured you, but serious liability claims can take months even years to settle, but the personal accident claims will typically pay out sooner. This will of course help a bit while you are waiting for the liability claim to settle. David Edited December 4, 2013 by David BASC
Nikk
So if someone shoots you in the face and you lose your eyesight you get a pay out of £7,500?. What happens if they are not insured? Just curious not a complaint!
David BASC
I fully accept that the personal accident insurance is only a small payment compared to what you may expect to get form a third party, but it’s better than nothing of course… If the person who shoots you is not insured, it’s unlikely they will be in a position to pay you any compensation sadly, and that’s the issue. I don’t think third party cover should become compulsory by legislation but I do think that the shooting community should make it compulsory by default ie make it socially unacceptable to go shooting without insurance. norfolk dumpling
As I said much earlier in this thread provided they have household insurance, which the majority will have, you are ok as this provides liability cover for you and family residing with you. From my past life as an insurance underwriter I can assure you the no of instances where people are injured by shooters is very very rare because we are such a wonderful reliable and responsible group of people.
