rabbit killer
Hi, I bought a 25-06 brand new a few months ago. Zeroed it bang on for the first 100 bullets then it started to miss so rezeroed it and it was fine again till now. Its had just over 200 bullets through it. I got it on the target today and the first 2 shots were on zero but the third threw well high. It put bullets all over for about 5 shots then held 2 bullet groups but the groups weren't in the same place!? Help?
Paul223
Check the barrel is free floating from the wood work, usually a tenner can be slid between the two down to the action Scope mounts tight? Moving? A quick witness mark with a pencil will help if your unsure Scope type? Moderator working loose?
rabbit killer
I did have a feeling it might be the mounts cause the screw do loosen up but only the tinyest bit so I didn't think it would effect it that much
Paul223
Use a pencil and witness mark mounts to action and mounts to scope, put some rounds though it and check the witness marks to see what if anything is creeping

kent
Heck, could be all sorts Cleaning regime, ammo, mounts, shooter etc etc. Just to throw into the mix bedding this is the primary reason I like to bed a hunting rifle even if it produces the goods on paper zero wander tends to occur (particulary bad with natural wood and cheap plastic). How are the action screw tensions week to week? do you have a torque driver?
Underdog
Others have good advice.. No mounting system should need tightening once tight....unless they are made of cheese! An intense cartridge as yours needs more clearance than a tenner if it is to be free floated. If it is a light barrel the above lack of clearance can make it really bad. An alternative is to create a presssure pad between the barrel and forend. To test it! Is the bolt handle touching the stock when closed? Big no no! Even slightly! How is the muzzle crown? Have you shot repeatedly so it has got hot? Has the throat erroded? Hope this helps. U.
Paul223
And are you using a bipod, if so check for free float with the weight of the gun on the bipod to create flex in the forend Out of interest what gun / stock type (material)
