Worzel-gummidge
Decided to give myself the morning off and venture out to one of my permissions. Firstly I had a good drive about all of the 10 fields to see what was about, no pigeons to be seen anywhere but a huge cluster of crows above one of the fields so stopped and watched for a while and a few pigeons flew in too. So with gun, hide, decoys and rucksack on my back I trundled across the field and set up with my back to the breeze along a wood facing the field. 12 decoys in the horse shoe pattern, a floater at the back and 2 crow decoys just off the pattern, I was poised and ready to go. I sat down, poured a coffee, had a smoke and waited for something to arrive, I even had the flapper ready for the first one to be shot. 3 and a half hours later all I saw was 1 crow that did a circle at 150ft above me and flew off. I did see a few woodies landing in trees 3 hundred meters away from me and could here a few pheasants in the wood behind me but nothing else showed itself. I wasn't expecting much this morning but something would have been nice! at least I was out of the house and away from the wife I say better luck next time eh! Cranfield
I am starting to see a few groups of 5-10 birds on sheltered parts of the rape, but travelling between Ashford and Canterbury yesterday I saw a few flocks hundreds strong over the woods along the road. I stopped to watch one extra large group and heard some shots, I am guessing there was a Shoot on and they had pushed the birds out of the woods. Hopefully, a few frosts like this mornings will bring them into the fields.
