PhilR Posted December 10, 2013 Report Share Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Hi Guys, I've a Sony Vaio VGN-FS415B that the screen has gone blank on. It's switched on and you can see faintly in the background what should be showing. I've done a restart and the screen came on then went off. I've got a desktop monitor so plugged that in and restarted it again. The desktop monitor had the start up screens appear and that's died now. Any idea of what has failed within the laptop? I've had it from new 2006 , I think, and I don't need all the latest stuff quite happy with XP too. MadSpringer Posted December 11, 2013 Report Share Posted December 11, 2013 Have you tried the LCD brightness controls, press the FN key plus F5 or F6 (I think it's those keys on the Sony) Also when you have the monitor plugged in have you pressed the FN key plus F7 to toggle between the LCD screen and external monitor? PhilR Posted December 11, 2013 Author Report Share Posted December 11, 2013 Yes I've been toggling like a good 'un as advised by a local computer repair shop this afternoon. Thought I'd cracked it as the start up screens came up on the monitor then blacked out again. The repair shop has it now. Seems from t'internet that Sony Vaio suffer this fault frequently.
