peteri
Hi At a recent auction, I picked up a T Moss box lock with William Ford barrels. The action doesn't have any marks apart from the name T Moss, the barrels are proofed post 1925 style and have the serial number: 25929 stamped on them. On the rib there's stamped: William Ford 4 Price Street (Late 15 St Marys Row) Birmingham. Any one any idea on date/any other info? Looks solid enough - fingers crossed! Cheers Pete

peteri
Thanks - mixed bag really - Action is dated July 1922, barrels are 1925 proof pattern. So nice and old. Unfortunately - got it checked out by my local gun shop today, and they reckon it needs work before it's safe to fire - notably the barrels need to be tighter to the face and the stock also needs tightening which means new holes. Estimate is 100 quid worth of work, not sure what to do since it only cost me £35 at auction! mmmm Pete
Sharpshooter.123
Get it done! If it's in proof and not pitted it will be a nice cheap game gun, I like a gun with history post some pictures up
peteri
Thanks - good point, some pitting down the end of the barrels but shop reckoned 21g would be fine. I'm going to get the work done - you're right, it's got some history and for £135 - nice to have an old gun still working. Having problems uploading pics - Flickr not allowed? Gunman
I can find no record of a T Moss listed as a gun maker . It is probable that he was an ironmonger , chandler or possibly a department store that sold guns as part of there lines . Before the days of mass produced brands that we know to day they would have bought in guns from the Birmingham makers branded with their name . Dating will be difficult and only an approximation can be made based on the original proof mark on the action and the style of the gun , if it has any other marks such as patent stamps will help but other than that all is guess work . peteri
Thanks - I've not been able to find anything else, when I get it to the gunsmith in the new year, maybe he'll find something I've missed
