phaedra1106
My son applied for a coterminous about 4 weeks ago, FEO told us 4 to 5 weeks and to give them a ring if we hadn't heard anything by then. Not expecting it to be that quick to be honest, my FAC took over 3 months so will give them until mid-January before giving them a ring. phaedra1106
8 Weeks and counting, I know they spoke to our Clay Pigeon club chairman before Xmas but that's about it, not heard anything from the other 4 rifle/pistol/practical shotgun clubs we're in. As I said I wasn't expecting it to be as quick as he said and with Xmas/New Year in the middle of it all it just adds more waiting time. Interesting, I haven't heard of any clay clubs being spoken to before as part of the approval process. Was the chairman one of your references? phaedra1106
No, he's just the contact listed for the club on the application forms, neither referee has been contacted as yet but then again neither of mine were for my SGC or FAC when I applied. Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. I didn't mention my clay club on my application but seeing as neither of my referees were contacted I wouldn't have expected anyone else to be quizzed on my behalf if I had. Cheers. LeadWasp
Look on BASC website ref Durham doctors forms and payment - there is a report saying it exceeds their legal authority or somesuch and to proceed as normal.

Alendil, Yes, Geordie, Mackem and whatever strange variation of the English language they speak in Middlesbrough This is quite right , BASC have advised not to be taken in by these demands from Durham police , and it has no legal baring on your application This is quite right , BASC have advised not to be taken in by these demands from Durham police , and it has no legal baring on your application From Basc web site BASC is advising members not to co-operate with a move by Durham Constabulary demanding that shooters provide and pay for a medical report from their GP when applying for shotgun or firearm certificates. Currently the law only requires applicants to declare any medical conditions on their licensing application forms; under current Home Office guidelines, police may then ask an applicant’s GP for an opinion on his or her fitness to hold a certificate. BASC says Durham is exceeding its legal authority by requiring applicants to submit medical reports up front – and pay any extra fee the doctor may demand for preparing them. We are advising members not to comply but instead stick to the established legal process when applying for certificates. Director of firearms Bill Harriman said; “The new requirements offer no benefits either to applicants or to public safety. Durham Constabulary has an appalling record for its administration of firearms licensing. “After Michael Atherton shot dead three women and killed himself Durham licensing staff claimed they were unaware of Home Office guidance on licensing, which has been published for over ten years. The force has also had problems with corrupt licensing officers selling guns to the public. “Adding new requirements for applicants which have no legal basis will not help to reform the Constabulary’s record or performance.”
Luckyshot
Durham police are the worst force in the country for FAC .....................and that comes from BASC That is a load of ********, what does BASC know that others dont. Durham may not be the best force in the world but they are certainly not the worst. Ive never had bad service from them even when I refused to fill out the medical report my fac renewal was still procesed no problem.
