Tru oil vs Trade secrets.

When I decided to redo a stock a few years back I was recommended to use Tru oil. It worked well but very shiny, almost like a varnished stock, I was looking for a more traditional oil finish and tried wool to tone it down though it never really had that oiled look.

Recently I did another stock and was recommended to try Trade secrets, it really does give that traditional oiled look and you can regulate how shiny you get the stock. Trade secrets is also very easy to use.

Two different products , both work if you use them correctly . Biggest mistake people make is not following instructions , yes I know were are blokes , but you do need to follow them . Also time is a factor and using either to get good results takes time

Personal I use Trade Secrets oils and not just because they are produced by an old mate on mine but because I find they suit my way of working . I have used Tru Oil again with good results but I find other products easier to work with .

An oiled stock such as Trade Secrets Oils are easier to patch or repair if damaged so is my choice of stock finish ,but it does depend on what kind of finish the customer wants .
