Hi all,

We have moved from a large place in the country to a small place in town. Despite out best intentions and efforts, it's not really working out.

So I'd just wondered if anyone would be seriously interested in adopting a lovely boy, not with any training I'm afraid, he's just over two, called jake.

His general behaviour is excitable but controllable. He wants to say hi to other dogs, and will pull on the lead. Barks quite a bit at people, and bicycles.

He has been a guard dog in our last home, where he had the run if several acres, and barely met others. If I introduce him to someone though he will stop barking. We haven't trained him to be aggressive or any other training really, he was just let to run about in the fields. He is brilliant with my stepson, now eight. Which makes me realise the dog must be older than I first thought, sorry, he must be closer to four...

It's not the lack of formal training that's the problem. It's the time. As he no longer has a decent garden to run around in, I have to take him for long walks. I don't finish work until 2200, then drive home, have a cuppa, drive him out of town to the woods, walk him for around an hr and a half, drive back, hose him off.

Then I put him in the carport and wait for him to dry off a little.(also towel dry him a bit) then finally let him in. Then the baby will wake up, so I feed her, and go to bed around 2am, before getting up at 6 for work...

My wife hoovers up his hair twice a day or so and mops the floor.

It's just with the house move into town, my long hours, the new baby, it's just too much. I was hoping things would settle into a routine or get easier, but it's just not working out.

Someone mentioned checking with the police dog unit, so I sent an email, just to see.

A friend of mine had to look at re homing his GS a few years ago.

this was due to constant complaints from the neighbours about the dog barking while they were out at work.

Before they took the decision to re home they tried a few things including muzzles & electric collars all to no avail.

In the end the police took him away to train him up as a police dog.

after a few months they phoned the police dog training school to see how he was getting on?

ironically they were told he failed police training because he didn't bark enough
