wildfowler.250 Posted January 10, 2014 Report Share Posted January 10, 2014 I was lucky enough to get an invite out for a day on the hill over the holidays. There was a quick check of zero in the morning and then we headed out. I managed to get a chance of a shot in the afternoon. After a bit of crawling in some snow, the guide got me into position about 160 yards away from a group of hinds. We spent several minutes trying to select a hind but there was either another animal too close to the target beast or the deer was facing the wrong way. Eventually a shot presented itself and I managed to take out the top of the heart. The hind only went about 20 meters before dropping. Was a great day out and a highlight was probably seeing a golden eagle land in a tree only 50 metres away! Then saw my first red squirrel in ages just after that. I think my next stalking trip will have to be reds on the hill. Thanks aister. It is a very good day out! It's nice even getting to see somewhere different. There was grouse which kept getting disturbed every 40 meters which made things even more challenging! Well done. Its great being on the hill ...been a few years now for me , hard work but very satisfying. It's great fun. I was fortunate enough to be able to drag the hind downhill on some snow which made it a bit easier than going through the heather the whole way.
