fenboy
A hide will depend on if there is natural cover , if there is a reed bed just stand / sit in it . Cartridge wise obviously non toxic , I would use 3s in steel.
holloway
Also if you havent a dog try not to drop them in the river ! morning or evening flight depending on when they turn up. If you get it right and go steady you will have some nice sport for as long as you want but if you get carried away and shoot everything you will find nothing will come in anymore and that will be it. Good luck let us know how it goes.
anser2
If you are using a dog make sure it can easily get out of the river. Many rivers have piling along the banks that make it almost impossible to get the dog out of the water. Also be aware in the recent flooded conditions that your dog may have problems swiming back against the fast running water while carrying a duck. kent
You don't always need a hide on evening flight but you must keep still right up until the mount (as must the dog) sitting slightly laid back with a cap shielding your face against something and the dog tight in or behind breaks your outline into a shape the duck don't always recognise, When I here evening I think sunset and two hours into dark BTW, not when its duskish
crowdie2013
Are they landing at the exact place you've seen them? I know that the duck come in a few hundred metres up water on my river and float down to where they feed/congrogate. If fighting at dusk without a dog you risk not finding dropped birds, difficult to guage distance when nearing dark and duck prone to diving so hard to find. Good luck with it
spannermonkeymark
Just packed up and went home there were a lot of ducks already on the river when we got there they lifted and never came back . We set up a hide next to where the 2 rivers meet and waited for dark , just as it was dark a few mallard came in which we left to settle on the river to try attract a few more. It then clouded over and went very dark we could hear ducks coming in put couldn't see them so packed up and went home . I am not going to give up on it will try again soon .thanks for all your help .
