Dave-G
I've put this in here so that members can ask questions about it - or discuss it in a way that is not generally accepted in sales threads. Anyone with a Yukon Photon has probably noticed how the rubberised daytime iris lens cap gets knocked off so easily. I machine some much sturdier ones that require a specific action to remove them. They are available with various iris sizes to better suit the users shooting range and illumination amount. A video is better than a thousand photos so here you are, sorry the audio picks up my breathing so much: A fair bit of work goes into their making - which is reflected in the price of £24: (£30 delivered via RMSD to members of various shooting forums)
rabbitraider1
Hi Dave, Have you got any threads comparing before/after? Thanks Tom
Dave-G
Thanks Tom. I can't think how I forgot to link to the fact finding videos I'd made that led to the discovery of how an iris will help the Photon. Perhaps I didn't ought to admit it - but I discovered it while trying to sort out another issue. I'd got a reflected crescent on the bottom part of the screen which I initially thought was reflected IR from the illuminator bouncing off the sound mod - as seen in this video, but I later felt it was skylight bouncing off the shiny metal component just inside the objective onto the image sensor. Long story short - I made a lens cap with a hole in it as a sort of baffle so that the sensor would not see off axis light, and the facts emerged here; Edited January 13, 2014 by Dave-G
rabbitraider1
Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the iris cover, I took it out the other night and it worked fantastically It drastically improved the focus and therefore the quality of the image, Definitely worth getting if you have a Photon. Boristhedog
Dave, sorry for the delay in getting back to you with a comment on the lens cap. I'm just going to confirm what you already know; the cap works as you said it would. Focusing is so much better at distances I’ve shot with a .17 HMR. Other Photon users would benefit from using one of these lens caps.

Dave-G
No sorry. SMALL spray can caps( Fly spray perhaps ) usually fit just right - put a hole in the top of it.
