A wet day but productive!

The alarm went off at 6am. I hopped out of bed got washed and sorted with my gear! Grabbed the cheese from the fridge and hopped into the car. I set off for the hours drive to the shoot with mixed feelings about the day ahead! Weather man says it's raining pretty much all day!

I pulled off the A1 down the road go the farm! My hopes were high when I saw a good few pheasant in the bushes on the drive down.

How wrong I was! My first drive saw me get one shot off and miss. My second drive saw me fire 4 shots missing a belting pheasant! Other than that there was nothing.

Third and final drive I was in the woods on the track through. This started badly, as I took a shot at a nice fast moving partridge the gun slipped off my shoulder and the lever smacked into my thumb ripping the thumb tip open

Still, not to worry! I manned up and reloaded in time to see a pheasant heading my way! Slid the safety off, gave it a little lead and squeezed the trigger! Boom. The bird folded to the first barrel and came down with a thud!

I reloaded and didn't have to wait long for another chance! I saw a pheasant heading through the trees and brought my barrels up to meet it. Then I heard a rustle in front of me! I looked down to see a Hare stop dead and just stare me out! I froze as I stared back for what seemed an eternity! Just Him and Me in this little moment! After what must have been 25 seconds he just took a sniff of the air and casually walked off :)

Of course I lost the bird but that was amazing!

After getting my head round my encounter I heard a call and saw a pheasant through the trees left to right! I mounted the gun, brought the gun through and just as it was clearing the canopy about 45 yards away I let fly with the rear trigger! Wings crumpled and down it came. Number 2 of the day!

I never really had any more chances, but 2 is better than 0.
