il cacciatore
Was wondering what the ideal scope for an airgun would be. Looking for something thats not any more expensive than it needs to be and what strength should I be looking at? Its for an AA S200.

il cacciatore
Yeh, it would only be used for shooting quarry and probably up to 25 - 30 yards.

njc110381
Is Simmons a good make? They sell them on the net for 40 quid. Its a 3-9x 50. I have a simmons 3-9x40 on my S200, and it suits me fine. Can you pm me a link to where you found them at that price, I may get one for my hmr if I get it. They are good scopes, and go down to fairly low light without too much trouble
SNAKEBITE
The more you spend the better quality the optics which equates to better light transfer which means you see more throught it at dawn and dusk. A 3-9 is the best magnification for an air rifle used for hunting. The bigger the objective lense the more light transfer so a 50mm dia is a good one to have. So a 3-9x50 is the one I would reccomend. As for make then Simmons is very good. However, and I know I could get shot down for this but I am going to say you will not go wrong with a Hawke or a Walther scope if you are on a budget. il cacciatore
£34.94 for the Simmons seems an alright price. I might just go for that if it is a decent scope. I think they are on sale as simmons are going to be relaunching their brand later in the year with a new range therefore they are clearing some of them. col s10
your gun is only as good as your scope dont compromise some say pay pay as much for scope as you did your gun but iwoudnt go that far check out bsa catseye scopes camera quality sight picture around 100 quid

grasshopper
Pay as much for scope as for rifle is more for centrefires as you,ll be shooting at greater distances. Last time i was offered a Simmons it had a lifetime guarantee,3 x 9 x50 for about £80 Japanese i think but i found the x hairs too wide.It was for a c/fire though so would be ideal for air rifles & you can,t get better than lifetime warrenty. Grasshopper, you think the cross hairs are too wide? I cant say that I noticed them being really wide when I had a go of it in the shop. Grasshopper, you think the cross hairs are too wide? I cant say that I noticed them being really wide when I had a go of it in the shop. Made the mistake of looking through a £425 Leopould at the time.....chalk and cheese - ended up 400 quid poorer,as i said though it was for a c/fire & simmonds was an ok scope for the price.Good luck with whatever you decide on. il cacciatore
Ah right missed it when you said you were looking for one for a c/fire. I'm going to get the Simmons I've decided. Cheers for all the responses!
il cacciatore
Well got it through the post the other day and all I can say as I'm impressed with optics for the money I paid for it. Need to get it mounted and zero'd to test out its capabilities.
newboy
hi i have just read through and noticed that i should of read this sooner i have just brought some new scopes the magnification is 4 x 20 no one seems to have mentioned alot about this spec about air riffles will it be any good or just for target practice?
SNAKEBITE
IMHO a 4-20 is a little over the top for hunting. Not much of a field of view at 20x mag.
