staffyspen
Hi all, Looking at spending a few hours tomorrow, hopefully shooting crows over some maize that's been left standing, field is a bit of a mess but 200+ crows have had free reign in it for a few months. I'm new to shotguns but have shot them with air rifle using a hawk decoy and opened up rabbit or pigeon, can I use this method with a well built hide? Thanks
THE AD
Can't see why not give it a go and let us know the outcome.
robbiep
I've used various things to decoy in crows, jackdaws and magpies, but (if you can get it) the best I've ever found has been as sheep fleece - if you shoot for a sheep farmer, go have a chat at shearing time. Get the fleece, lay it down in the field, weighted down with a couple of rocks. Use some red cloth torn into strips pegged out on it, streaming away. Finally, put a couple of crow decoys close by or on it, and get out of sight.

redshrimp
10 crow shells is all i use to start off with. The first bird shot goes on to a turbo flapper. Keep adding the slain to the pattern and keep WELL HIDDEN. Crows are intelligent birds but they can't resist joining their mates for a feed. superspark
Crow & rook shooting is one of my favourites. They are incredibly clever but in the right situation incredibly stupid. I mostly decoy them, they fly right in and over my pattern. Just the slightest movement by you sends them off in all directions. The main trick in shooting them is not to move a muscle or they will see you & flair off before they are in range. full bodied flocked crows will bring in not only crows but rooks & jackdaws too. I also use a crow caller, this also helps to bring them in. With a little practice at blowing you can get some half decent sounds out of it or maybe they just want to know what all the noise is lol. when I first started shooting crows I only had full bodied pigeons so with some black socks on them worked very well in too.
