Having just bought one of these myself....+1 lol  (AA S410F TDR). Though in honesty its more expensive than the "regular" S410, so a newbie might want to save a bit of cash and go for the standard version which is the same just a little heavier.

Also, I gave up on the factory supplied bag after my scope made it tight, the Bipod made it completely fail to fit and my swap for the HW moderator made it too long lol....not to mention the lamp had nowhere to go too!

To be honest I did exactly the same and haven't actually "took down" the rifle for about three years lol

For ease of use, long term reliability and pellet on pellet accuracy, as well as a tried and tested hunter and target gun, I'd go for the AirArms S400/410. Had both, preferred the multishot purely because it is multishot and then upgraded to the 510. That's a bit out of your budget with scope and pump etc.

I've had BSA's, Daystates, a Weirauch, a Logun and others but keep coming back to AirArms guns, there's a good reason for that.

Time to throw the curve ball and throw the crowd!

There is a new gun available that enable the purchase of a pump or cylinder, it will allow the buyer a scope and mounts, silencer and gun bag!

The gun?

The Hatsan AT44 W10. This walnut stocked beaut comes with 2 magazines, 2 stage trigger, hell it even has iron sights so you don't have to buy a scope, though one is advisable! This well made bargain comes with 2 magazines, quick fill and pressure gauge! Accurate, cannot be double loaded, they are even used by some clubs as the club gun and they are available from just over the £300 mark new, with warranty! Only downsides, only available in full rifle length and that auto safety. But the safety switch is a nice big, easily flicked with the thumb switch and can be manually reset too!

That's not a curve ball, it's just the left field option.

It's well documented that you are a little partial to a budget, albeit in your opinion well built, air rifle.....you do have to wonder why you're still a bit of a lone voice among the clamour though.

Each to their own of course.

I am not the only one, ask Night Searcher! The AT44 is a fine rifle, just the more jaundiced people remember Hatsans of 10 years ago and compare them to HW rifles of the same era.

Problem is Hatsan rifles have steadily improved in quality, HW rifles have steadily declined in quality. The galling problem on recent 99s being a case in point, it took a factory redesign to sort that out. Then you have the continuing saga of springs finished by bolt croppers (from appearances) and swarf in the mechanisms, not just a flake, but several. It is upsetting a lot of HW owners that. They are damned expensive guns and the last thing you need is for your 95, 77, 97, 99 to be beset by a load of problems that QC should have sorted out!

Hatsan have continually raised their game. The bluing is now great (something else modern HWs seem to be cursed with, poor bluing), the Quattro trigger is a lovely trigger to use, ok not up to the Rekord, but still a damned site better than most, the mechanicals are now being well finished and reliability is good too! Try one before you dismiss them!

It's got to be AA S410 if you want multishot. Dead accurate straight out of the box and light enough to carry round a shoot all day. Pump or bottle? I'd go for a bottle unless you are super fit. I'd rather be hunting than waiting for my heart rate to get back to normal.

LOL...but spot on!

  • 4 weeks later...

Don't rush , if you keep looking the right gun will turn up, try looking on gun trader, gun star, freeads, airgunbbs, gun watch , some of which have been regged, and some with charging equipment for under £600, I should know.... That's what I'm after , just need to sell my Harrier x
