activeviii
Shimming is a bodge, no two ways about it. think what you are doing to the shape of the scope tube, thin wall aluminium tube of a percussion spun scope is being bent to get more movement on the cross hair. once the damage is done then the scope will always need shimming , that's the reason there are so many people having to shim a second hand scope, because the last owner shimmed it, bent the tube to contort so the hair would zero. If you are running out of clicks and the scope in new then you 9/10 are having mount issues. change the mounts to find the problem. do not BODGE the rings. there is to many damaged scopes on the market. one tell is because the front tube has a crimp mark from the back being shimmed. One of my pet hates is a bodger, to many of them around and i have no time for them.
Paul223
First of all take the mounts off lay one on the other and visually check they are identical Then check the two dove tail groves are clean and free from any damage, the slightest of dents into the groove will results in the mounts being out a few thou Mount both mounts the same way, clamps the same side Then fit the centred scope just turning the screws down equally and in turn to just nipped were the scope is fixed but not tight, carefully tighten each screw a bit at a time on each again in turn Try a group
seeker
As Paul 233 says ... start at the beginning and check everything systematically. A bodge is a bodge and if it works for you be happy. It gets things going for the here and now but it doesn't cure the cause .. You'll still have the defective - mount, or rings, or scope, or op.error or even a combo of any of these. Reading between the dots have you considered asking the seller?
