krwigan
What's your opinions lads, shells or full bodied decoys? We have had some good days with the shells but I think that has been down to being able to decoy the birds into a small cops. Want some decoys to use with the air rifle. THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
If the shells work why change, I use shells with the odd full body lofted, also got a few dove deeks to add variety but I don't put the on with the pigeon ones. krwigan
Because our old shells have gone walk about... Anyway, just got some flocked shells today from mcavoys. They look spot on, and hopefully if it's dry tomorrow they will be making their debut appearance! Fingers crossed KR
Theskyfox
I've got a few full bodied ones but not used them in a while. When I first got them I put one in the garden to see what it looks like from a distance...within a few minutes of putting it out I had a real woodie land and try to make love to it! Had to scare him away...so they do work! -Andrew
shootgun
I had fairly good days decoying with FUDs... worth a try...

David M
I amended my 6 shells by putting small dots of araldite on the inside at head down and head up balance points, then drilled a small dent in them to accept a dowel with a domed piece of wire rod pushed into the end as pivots. These are my new pegs that allow the shells to move more freely and wobble as if walking. It does mean that the wind can spin them gently so they aren't always facing into wind, but neither are the real ones that land and feed all the time. There aren't that many woodies about on my favourite patch yet, I think the pheasant syndicate have changed quarry type and are keeping them at bay but my shell decoys certainly drew in enough to keep us in pigeon meat last year. Prawn
I use flocked shells as they work quite well and if put on a peg with wind they move a little bit showing movement. Also shells can be stacked making them much easier to carry!
krwigan
Yea I got some flocked shells purely for the stacking reason, would need another bag for full bodied, these ones came with pegs that have a spring which enables the shell to move around. Look really good actually. However the odd bird that landed immediately took off again without me moving a muscle! Has anyone else had this problem? David M
Yes mate, sometimes they do, other times they land and walk in amongst them like they were real. I just take it as part of the game...
FalconFN
I use fuds. I cut the big steel spike off and replaced them with wire so they are lighter and move in the wind. 12 take up the same amount if space as 6 shells.
Longbower
With Shells I get the pigeons only touching down for a second or two, or not touching down at all before quickly flying off. With the five full bodied , that they seem to land every time and have a walk. So I put shells out for the shotgun and Full bodied for Air rifle or RF, they just give me a few seconds longer to take the shot.
David M
Sounds like a solid tip there. I must admit, the most usual reaction to woodies landing is as soon as they touch down, they realise they've been duped and stand frozen for a few seconds. That's when I try and take my head shot. krwigan
Yea some sound tips thanks fellas, I'm here now but yet again it's not happening! No birds around though either, if birds were flying over I'd go out and change something!
David M
There's probably a newly sowed field or two of peas fairly local to you mate and they've gone for their holidays for a while....! Stick at it and you'll get some...

I have to agree, they struggle to land with shells out so use them with the shotgun,,but for the air rifle its flocked full bodied ones, atb Evo
