I know not everyone will agree but, when they had the pay rises they were on strike for it was bound to happen (cuts i mean)

plinker

If you were to find out what we were on strike for yes it was pay and also it was cuts to the service ie control rooms and fire appliance's it was under the IRMP intergrated risk management plan which basically means they bull??it the public by changing statistics on ie fire deaths to warrant cuts in fire engines.

eg if 2 people die in the same house fire tonight it is now only classed as 1 death if the house was petrol bombed it doesn't count as a fire death, if you are rescued and later die in hospital some weeks later it doesn't go on the fire death statistics at all! so when your local authority tell you there is a drop in fire deaths this could be why  . I don't really want to go down the rd of why you should sign or read on what is actually happening but above is an example.

All I will say is bloody good luck to each and every emergency worker.

I for one could not do it. There is not enough money in the world that covers what they deserve.

Oh and what I think Plinker was meaning was that the government will give with one hand and take back even more with the other, not a slight on the Fire service itself.

William, you're on a bloody good screw for a call centre operator. At 90 odd percent of a firefighters wage for sitting at a console you've really nothing to complain about. I know that sometimes you have to witness (listen to) unpleasant things but so do many many others far less well paid and with worse conditions of service.

I'm not necessarily in favour of regionalising anything but it's coming by 2010 and you'll just have to move to your new centre and mobilise from there

Bear in mid folks that there's always two sides to any issue.

Dave,

I completly agree with you bud.

As many know. I worked for the ambulance service as a paramedic, before breaking my back.

Ha.. there was a joke in there somewhere..

anyway.... I always found it a bit funny that some non technicians and were normal civilans reading off a scripted flip chart got paid nearly as much as PTS. (patient transport service) or more...

ok there are some medics, and technicians working with them and still getting full pay.. but thats because of injurys etc.

In alot of ways the ambulance service looked after us... (ok alot of internal politics) but thats the same with all jobs......

I never complained about my salary.. infact you will be lucky to see the ambulance crews going on strike... imagine that!!! sorry for calling 999. the staff are on strike... we will now direct your call to the brittish military for action... (hmmm)

sorry but we would end up in court!!! even with union action.
