Mentalmac
Hi Guys, Just a quick question: I need a 7 seater with 3 proper seats in second row and a proper size one (huge thing). Was looking at a 2005 galaxy, but heard about dual mass flywheel issues and various other issues. Is the Citroen C4 Grand PIcasso any good? Budget is around the £4.5k with around 50-60k miles on clock really. Any ideas?
malkiserow
Same issue as you .... Galaxy is same as Sharan and Alhambra at that age (ford split off just after these) but I hate the bolted in seats in the boot .... a pain. The younger models in all these companies are far better. I've looked at a few C4 grand P's some have had electrical faults when I saw them but owners ignored them! I've yet to see a really high mileage one so not sure if they will go the distance. Look at Renault grand scenics as well. Land Rover Disco. I also looked at the Touran but on careful measuring, it is only and inch wider than the zafira .... so clever marketing! Too small for me. I've almost settled on the new shape Galaxy which has a slidey rear row that all the other do NOT have.
sishyplops
i specifically wanted the MK2 galaxy and hunted high and low for a real nice one, found a 2006 (last of the mk2's) 140 miles away but it only had 35k on the clock, was nearly £7k but was a main dealer and the taxi boys love them to bits, the 1.9TDi engine is far superior to the modern 1.8 ford or 2.0 ford or 2.0 VW, a friends garage services 2 both of which are taxis and one has 250k on the clock the other has over 300k , clutches can go on anything i wouldn't worry about it, its the 1.9 engine you want, get the 130 or 150bhp if you want a caravan lugger though the 115 is a little under powered for this type of work, mine is a 150 its quite scary at full tilt!! its the best car we have ever owned for practical family use and so comfortable to drive, there is the FGOC forum and another one for all help a million taxi drivers cant be wrong
malkiserow
The taxi boys like the MK3' Galaxy's as well .... the 2 litres seem to go to the moon and back and at 50+MPG! just look at Addison Lee, they only run Galaxy's
sishyplops
its a massively common fault on the 2.0TDCI to pop the injector rail at about 80-90k, i have had 2 go on two different mondeos, £1800 job, good job they were company cars, i have had several 2.0 tdi from VW and Audi obviously the same unit, oil pump drives are the problem with them. Its fair to say all cars have their problems but the OP says his budget is £4.5K its a no brainer MK2 galaxy is the best choice out there, big modern taxi companies need to buy newer cars as the mk2's finished in January 2006 its logical to move on, i could have a bought a mk3 with my budget of £7k when we got ours but my friend and local garage owner said get a PD engined 1.9 simples
88b
The Alhambra's tend to be a little cheaper but a Galaxy Alhambra or Sharan is the way to go . Only downside is if you use all seven seats there's isn't much load space. They handle like cars not vans, we've still got a 98 2.3 petrol , it's capable of 30mpg and 130 mph but only one of those if the wife's driving it. sishyplops
It's also worth noting that the sharan in SE spec is pretty much the same as the ford in Zetec spec, ours is a Zetec I wish it was a ghia but we bought on mileage and condition
Gordon R
One daughter in law has a Zafira, my other daughter has two - they own a couple of children's nurseries and I owned a 2.2 SRi a few years ago. Plenty of room and decent build quality.
