pin
In my experience pointed pellets are complete and utter ****. They don't fly well, have never performed to what I call an acceptable standard and even if they did they generally penetrate too much which when hunting is a bad thing. In general you want the pellet to stop inside the quarry, if it does, all the energy it did have has been transferred to it. If it passes through then it takes some of the energy it did have and uses that to put the pellet into the dirt behind what you shot at. Assuming you only have a theoretical 12fpe to play with, you don't want any of this killing energy being used to drive the pellet into the dirt Semi rounded pellets work just great (like AA hunter) - softer lead rather than anything seems to work fine as they deform on impact and won't penetrate too far, meaning whatever FPE the pellet left the barrel with, has been turned into destructive and killing energy - hopefully meaning what you shoot at keels over stone dead with not so much as a twitch
Ferretboy111
Im with you pin, Pointed pellets stray off in the wind very easily, they may loook good but they are pretty **** and dont deform enough. I love accupels or verminpels, accupels are my favourite as they are light, nippy and very accurate. Alex P-.s really should get out with my air rifle more

I love accupels or verminpels, accupels are my favourite as they are light, nippy and very accurate. Alex P-.s really should get out with my air rifle more Pointed pellets perform badly due to aerodynamics and they're physics, manufacturers know that people who don't know too much about pellets will buy the ones that look 'sharp' and are more appealing...anyway, pointed pellets perform badly because of they're shape, like anything that 'flies', it is based entirely on how the air meets the object, in context, the air passing over the point of the pellets circumference will be under extreme pressure because of the tiny streamlined surface area (high pressure laminar flow), and once it reaches the part where the pellet skirt begins (where it dips from the point to the beginning of the skirt taper), that high pressure will have more space to go to, which means it will lose pressure very quickly, which in turn would lead to turbulence (because of the sudden pressure loss), which would then lead to the pellet wobbling (like the wing of an airliner during a turbulent flight) and therefore being innaccurate, the aerodynamic rule of thumb is, the smaller the point, the more pressure it will have to handle at high velocities, especially at speeds of 800fps. Domed pellets perform better because the way they handle the air flow is more efficient, because of the broader surface area it is able to distribute the high pressure air flow evenly without dispersing any turbulent wake towards the skirt, the laminar flow will be smoother and the high pressure will be evenly distrubuted around the pellets circumference, thus making it fly a bit sweeter and hitting more accurately, the only advantage of pointed pellets is penetration, even then the domes are not far off... (sorry about the science lesson, hope it helps!)

njc110381
That's a lovely gun. Get the poor old thing serviced, it'll shoot perfect then. It doesn't cost a lot for seals and a spring, so well worth the small outlay for the results you get

sniper22
ox springs are fit for nothing. harsh and prone to being used by the knuckle draggers who boast of 200yd kills in the pub. do yourself and the gun a favour - buy a v mach kit from blackpool air rifles (www.airgunbuyer.com) you wont believe the difference a DECENT spring and seal makes
