tonker
Hi guys, need some help here, I don't feel comfortable. Basically my friend and I have been asked to clear some roe out on the levels, that are causing a lot of crop damage. Now being that it is out of season we said we couldn't do it, but we would go over and take a look. Over we went and bloody hell there is a lot there. in six grounds I counted 21, bear in mind that this is on the levels (no hedges) and these are here all day and every day. That's a lot of mouths in a small area. I'm waffling! My mate gave the dear society a ring and they sent him an email telling us about the rules of culling out of season. Seems like as long as we get a written letter of dispensation signed by the Farmer stating he has asked us, and it is for crop damage it's ok! This seems a bit weird to me because anyone could claim crop damage and shoot out of season. 'what's the point of a closed season if you can get around it that easily. My question is am I worrying about nothing and as we have the letter do you think we are ok to start. I know that the farmer will get someone else in if we don't do it, and it's the first time we have been asked to shoot this area. Shooting is hard enough to get as we all know and to get a farmer ask you to shoot deer on a new farm is to good a chance to miss. Opinions please , What would you be doing? Scully
If you dont feel comfortable , you only have seven days to wait until Bucks are in season. Can you not put it off until then?
pocko3000
Hi Steve, Are you or your mate BASC members at all? If so might be worth giving their Deer Department a call: http://basc.org.uk/deer-management/ Hope you get it sorted,

He must be knackered! Fair enough; you need professional advice then in my opinion just to ensure you stay legit.
