NickB65
Do you eat when it rains? Yes they are less inclined to hang around and they will gorge themselves less when it is raining but if they are feeding on your fields then they will be back. Not as much fun for you but better than watching TV.
The Essex Hunter
If you don't go then you will learn nothing as every time is different...A mate and I shot 71 a couple of years ago in the pouring rain...It got so bad we had to bail out to the truck 3 times... anser2
I have found that light rain has little effect on feeding pigeons , but a steady downpour can finnish a days shooting. Sometimes found as long as its not too late in the day you can get some hectic shooting just after the rain clears and the sun comes out. As a whole though I avaid shooting in steady rain , the sport is usualy poor and your gear gets wet and may need drying out before the next outing. Nothing worse than setting up on a sunny day and find the decoys\hide are wet and shiny from your last wet day out. Of course roost shooting is a different matter and have had some good days as the pigeons flight in to the woods for the night. I guess you couldn't get away from picking up your children, but If the birds never fed in the morning then they will need to feed at some time...I take it the birds were feeding in that field you had set up on? On Saturday I went back to an area I shot 36 birds 10 days before, there were birds gliding in the rape so I set up and shot 5! Then a line started up to my right and never gave me a second look, so I pack up and did the 200 yard walk back to the car as fast as I could, got in the truck and followed them. A mile down the road they were feeding in the rape! So a second 200 yard set up and I shot 43 off that flight line from 2 till 5.30..... Hard work but a great afternoon... TEH Thanks mate, yes I usually never bother setting up unless the birds are on the field and usually walk them off 1st,if they dont return then I dont bother getting the gear out.But due to only having a few hrs I set up regardless, still the buzzards made it worthwhile.
