HDAV
I have a stihl kombi (KM56 engine) long reach hedge trimmer and have been asked to do some trimming over the next couple of months I dont think the hedge cutter will cope with this ticker stuff (know it wont do the bigger branches so looking at getting the pole pruner end. Any feedback? For the cost of the pole pruner attachment from a stihl dealer i can get a whole complete luk-a-bit-likey set http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/52cc-3HP-5-in-1-Hedge-Trimmer-Chainsaw-Strimmer-Brush-Cutter-Extension-Pole-/261356100688?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item3cda099c50 I've been lucky with me Kombi purchases so far but needs necessitate i will need the pruner sooner rather than later
keg
Hi HDAV, it looks like a copy of the Stihl in every way. I would still buy the original kit. I have the PP and it's never let me down yet, cut limbs up to 6" with it which is more than they recommend but it sailed through. pigeonblasterian
I have the Stihl kombi and last year i cut down 25 leylandi all over 20 ft in height with it.Some of the trunks were 10 inch in width but it cut through them all.The blade had to be resharpened twice but that was due to me cutting the stumps off at ground level and getting the saw teeth into the soil. Thanks Keg, good to know it can cut bigger stuff. one thing i couldnt find is does the chain head adjust or is it fixed? Ideally i want to stand at ground level and cut horizontally to top some big shrubs rather than limbs of trees.

Which engine? Was this with the chain attachment? I worried the little KM56 (0.8KW engine wont have the nuts to run the saw) where as the bigger 100 & 130 engines will but a 130 engine is £500... A basic stihl 171 with 14" bar has 1.3kw and much shorter drive train.

pigeonblasterian
Good to know thanks can you adjust the angle of the head on the pole saw attachment? Not on the chainsaw attachment as far as i know it is a fixed head.
HDAV
Thanks there is an angle head but i dont think that will help in my case. http://toolstoday.co.uk/product/98304/stihl-angled-gearhead-for-pole-pruners
keg
Sorry HDAV, just got back in. No you cannot adjust the angle of the pole pruner head. The only head that can be adjusted is the variable hedge trimmer.

keg
Just a well equipped DIYer. If I had my time again I would have gone into it straight from school. The big thing for me is knowing my limits and when to call in the pros..

keg
Why would a pole pruner be used by an as you likely? I am a keen amateur as stated but surely that type would use any cheap old junk?
felly100
Personally, I don't think they do a professional job. Far better a set of ladders and a silky saw. I have a 55 and the only fault I have with it is the fuel tank size, other than that a great tool.
guss109
Looking at that you will be left with a mountain of brash a lot more than you think. At least if you use a reputable tree surgeon you will get it all chipped and it will save a lot of hassle
