But amid a modern rehabilitation of the wolf's image has grown talk of re-introducing it to the Highlands, where numbers of red deer have risen out of control partly because of a lack of predators.

And now a team of scientists from London and Norway has attempted to establish what would actually happen if wolves were let loose in the wild.

In a paper published today by the Royal Society, they conclude doing so would have "significant benefits" to both the rural economy and the eco-system as a whole.

Am I the only one who thinks the scientists are mad?

They would be heavily protected though, at least at the start then when they start mauling sheep then that possibility might present itself.

They are taking people's FACs off them then when the deer population rises again, instead of encouraging people to get FACs they want to introduce wolves???

I was being daft obviously, thinking about it I wouldn't have a clue if it was a good thing or not.

Wolves are not daft, they won't run themselves into the ground chasing deer about if they can take livestock which can't get out of a pen / fenced area etc.

As with most of these studies completed by leftie soap dodging types they have no idea what might happen but they all live in Islington so they couldn't care less what happens :)
