tonker
I thought I'd tell you about the Magpie I got today. At about three o'clock I thought I'd go down the chicken run and see if there were many eggs as they have been down a bit lately. The run isn't at home it's about half a mile away, by our fields. As i pulled of the road I saw this maggie in the run,and thought ****** no gun. When I made the run, I made it out of Harris fence panels, and panels on the roof as well but because of the legs there is 6'' gaps in the roof, I presume that's where it got in, I made it what I thought fox proof, not maggie proof. I thought now I know why the eggs have been down. Now it's not as if I'm a big Chicken farmer, I've only got 13 2 saved old Warrens, 2 Orpington buffs, 8 light Sussex, and 1 somewere between the two with club feet, in facty that's it's name 'Clubfoot'. I remembered that in the feed shed I have a one handed double side slasher so i thought I'd despatch it with that if I could get close enough. Now picture this the run is 40ft long and 11ft wide with two houses in it. Me stood in the middle with my slasher, magpie flying up and down past me not 4ft away, what could be easier. Whoosh missed, next flight, whoosh missed again, Chickens now running in all directions, Whoosh missed again ( I was now swearig) The next swing and i hit the side or the run with the slasher, made an awful din and me swearing like a trooper, just as unbeknown to me a girl on a horse was going by, Horse kicked off and nearly threw her. I shouted my appologies to her, now she's swearing at me, and the bloody maggie's still flying up and down. Cut a long story short on about it's seveth fly past whilst it was taking the p**s doing arial accrobatics I made contact and it fell in two bits on the floor, so 1 more for the corvid tally. it was an extemely quick end for it once I made contact, and much better than hitting it with a pellet and having it fly on. I thought some of you might like this story, some may not.
