bobshooting
I'm a recently joined member, from Norfolk and would like to say Hi and ask about 20 Bores. I shoot clays and am a member of two Wildfowling Clubs, I know a 20 Bore can handle a Sporting Clay Shoot, but has anyone used one for the Salt-Marsh? Also, on the day I joined this site the gamekeeper told me no more pigeon shooting until Harvest......is this site cursed?
robbiep
While you can use a 20 for fowling, loads are usually a fair bit lighter than with a 12. That just means you've got to pick your distances a little more carefully though. I regularly shoot clays with a 20, and also some game days. CharlesP
It's certainly true to state that light loads are the norm for a 20 bore, but a glance at the Just Cartridges website will demonstrate that loads of 35 grams are available. That should be enough for wildfowl, and probably enough for your shoulder, too.
Dominicrobed
I shoot 20 bore for clays but would only take my Maxus out wildfowling. Just gives more range and power
Big Al
I've just sold my 20 bore. I just wasn't taking it out of the cabinet - the twelve bore is just more versatile imho.
bobshooting
I'm just thinking about it at the moment, but am afraid I'd buy one and do as Big Al seems to have done and leave it in the cabinet; I already have a pump action in there that was last fired shortly before £ shillings and pence went tits up. I'd use it sometimes for clays, but that's not nearly enough to justify the cost. I guess if I took it on the marsh and missed a duck, I could blame the gun.......but I can do that now with a 12 Bore.........and do......often. bobshooting
I shoot 20 bore for clays but would only take my Maxus out wildfowling. Just gives more range and power I have a Beretta 391 Urika, had it from new for years, only 3inch, but I never use more than 36 gram anyway, usually 34 gram, I just love Berettas, never any trouble. The older I get the more I enjoy things that just keep working.
