.22LR Querie

Recommended Posts

This is a querie regarding the mainland only.

The origin of this question is that in NI we consider these HP rounds as expanding ammunition and we havd to be careful which ammo we use for hunting and .22 pistols as shooting expanding ammunition out of any pistol is illegal.

I have to seperate mini-mag RN and HP for pistol and hunting respectively.

Does anyone have any definitive knowledge on .22lr and expanding ammunition classification on the mainland? For example is CCI mini-mag hollowpoint or CCI frangable ammo classed as expanding ammunition. I would assume yes but am looking for others input.

Thankyou in advance

Even solid RN 22LR expand. They mushroom like any other soft point. So it will come down to the rules of your land.

The law says they are not designed to and that's the big one, its similar to the a-max v v-max debate. Taken further the military have long side skipped the Geneva convention by making rounds tumble after impact rather than expand.

Thanks Rick. I was asking about the mainland reference .22lr. Not all lead bullets can be classed as expanding unless specifically designed to be. I know most will deform on impact but this is reference what is CLASSED as .22lr expanding mmunition on the mainland.

Thankyou for the reply Casts_by_fly. I have expanding listed on my Northren Ireland FAC and assumed that I would be able to purchase and hold expanding ammunition while in GB for shooting, Awaiting reply from local police chief as well for letter . Land is checked out and ok. This was more a check than anything else.

Cheers for replys.
