kent
Your spot on Redgum, its just a bit of a "kissing" on the bands. I picked up a box of RWS yesterday to try. On examining them, I'm not surprised people are getting good results with them. The bullet heads look as well made and consistent throughout the box as an Eley and of similar design. It makes the winnies I have look very poorly made. I can understand the knockdown power of the Winnies being highly rated though, as its a gaping hollow point compared to any of the others. However, you have to hit it first I feel the look of the Winchester sub forms the wrong impression in the minds of many, SK. Eley and RWS all have small diameter holes in the bullet and all fully expand on game like rabbits well beyond 100 yards mark many shoot to. I have recovered bullet heads to back this up. My mind was once the same way (bigger must be better) but that's all it is "in the mind". The most lethal bullet I have used on normal rim fire quarry from the .22 LR is unquestionably the CCI segmenting but it only makes a difference on badly placed shots, I have done some crazy placement with these things and they still kill remarkably well. Uncle Albert
After experimenting when I first got my CZ455 I found that it preferred Wini subs. I have used them exclusively but did swap for a box of Elleys with a mate when he ran out. Had problems cycling rounds with them and handed half the box back to him. I am going to have to get some more Wini subs in the very near future and I am apprehensive about the apparent loss in QC I have heard about. I will have to wait and see, hopefully the problems will have been ironed out by then.
tomov
For what it's worth, I put a few of the old ( blue box) Winchester's through my Annie 1417 alongside the new ones (black box) last week and the group sizes were v similar...
Rimfireboy
New winchester subs on the way. 42 grain, could be interesting? I find SK's superb though.
